The Waldhof Alm in Winter
A winter adventure wonderland for big and small
The walk up to the Waldhof Alm isn't very long - but well worth the effort. An "alm" is the German word for "mountain pasture" and although you're just a short walk away from the village, arriving at the "alm" is like entering a whole new "Heidi World"! Below you Lake Fuschlsee lies glistening majestically in the sun and the summit of the Schober Mountain seems so close you can almost touch it. Tucked away at the edge of the clearing you will see the charming Waldhof Alm mountain hut restaurant with its sunny terrace overlooking the snowy slopes and the magic carpet lift. It's here on these slopes that the adventure starts: snow tubing, tobogganing, children's skiing and snow-biking. This fairytale setting is the ideal place to introduce your children to the wonders of skiing where the magic carpet lift makes learning to ski easy and fun. The frozen ponds are ideal for curling and when you've had enough you can simply pop into the cosy mountain hut restaurant for a drink or snack. The "man on the alm" is Daniel and he serves delicious local specialities, warming mulled wine and refreshing drinks. The air is fresh and clean and the views are stunning, a visit to the alm is always very special. And when it's time to go home the flood-lit toboggan run will lead you laughing and happy back down to the Garden Hotel Sonnleitn.
